Johanna's Focus Points
Education
High quality education is the best investment for the future.
Vaasa must maintain and develop its education ecosystem in three languages ; Finnish, Swedish and English. This applies to all levels – early childhood education, primary school, secondary education and higher education. Education must have sufficient resources, in difficult times we cannot compromise our future.
The integration of foreign students into Finnish working life must be made easier, this is how we retain talented people in Vaasa.
Work and livelihood
The companies in Vaasa are exceptionally well connected to the international markets.
Vaasa must have a friendly infrastructure for big and small companies alike. Vaasa competes for talented workers, not only across Finland but also with the rest of the world.
We must make it easy for both entrepreneurs and employees to thrive in Vaasa. This also means providing jobs for family members and a wide range of opportunities for education and culture.
Environment
We only have one planet. Vaasa-based companies develop world-class solutions to solve environmental problems.
In 2016, the city of Vaasa set a goal for the city to be carbon neutral by the 2020s. Concrete actions to support this objective must be part of all the city’s activities.
Climate change requires large and small scale decision making. In Vaasa, for example, we can ensure that the recycling of plastic, textiles and small electronics is made easy and accessible for everyone involved.
Why I am running for Vaasa City Council
I wish to contribute to the development of Vaasa. I can offer my experience in international business and provide an insight into how Vaasa is part of a global business environment when working in the Vaasa city council and committees.
Vaasa is a very diverse city; here you can find a world-class industry, good educational opportunities and a beautiful living environment. Vaasa is a great place to live, work and also to retire.
I believe that Vaasa and other cities like this will be increasingly attractive places to live in the future. Vaasa has good connections to the rest of the world and the quality of living is high. We have clean air, clean water and a safe city enabling people to live a healthy and happy life.
I think it is important that more peaceful and mediation-minded people get involved in politics.
City residents should be involved in the city’s affairs and politicians should be able to talk about their work with clarity and transparency.
Everybody wins when common issues are handled openly, and common municipal tax money is spent sensibly.
Friends have asked me why I chose RKP as my party. My answer is because the RKP is a genuine liberal market economy party. We are all in need of job security and a sustainable livelihood.
